School Council

Our School Council is made up of two children from each year group who are democratically elected from the student body. If a child wishes to be part of the School Council, they stand for election at the start of every term where they give a speech about why they think they would be a good school councillor. The whole school then votes for two children from each year group.

School Council meetings run each week when any issues and suggestions from the children are discussed. They also discuss other local community matters that have been brought to school by the local Parish Council. For example, we have recently been involved in the development of the local park and raising awareness in the community about responsible dog ownership.

We also run a variety of committees during the school year which organise awareness afternoons or after school events. The committees are as follows:

  • Eco Committee: children focus on raising awareness of environmental concerns and organise assemblies and event afternoons for the whole school.
  • Finance Committee: children have a small budget that can be spent on any items they think would enhance their playtime provision.
  • Charity Committee: children fundraise for a local, national and international charity during the school year. One charity per term.
  • I-vengers: children develop their awareness of online safety and organise events including assemblies, information for parents and activities for Safer Internet Day.

We are incredibly proud of our school council and the contributions they make to school life. It is lovely to see the children grow in confidence and how they thrive on the responsibility of being a school councillor.
